The Wayside Chapel Grandpa's old time humor
Background:
An English lady while visiting in Switzerland was looking for a room and she asked the school master if he could recommend any. He took her to see several rooms and when everything was settled, the lady returned to her room to make everything ready for the move. When she arrived home the thought occurred to her that she had seen no “water closet” (toilet) around the place…..so she immediately wrote a note to the school master asking if there was a “WC” around.
The school master was a very poor master of English so he asked the parish priest if he could help in the matter. Together they tried to discover the meaning of the letters “WC” and the only solution they could find for the letters was a “Wayside Chapel”. The school master then wrote the following note to the English lady seeking a “WC” with her room:
THE LETTER
Dear Madam;
I take great pleasure in informing you that a “WC” is situated nine miles from the house in the center of a beautiful grove of pine trees by lovely grounds. It is capable of holding 22 people and is open on Sunday and Thursdays only!!! Want to laugh a bit more? Read the rest of the story!

Star Trek scene, written January 1, 1968. Throughout the entire history of the Star Trek TV series, spin-offs and movies, the most popular had plots dealing with time travel. This particular one was written to be a pilot for a spin-off series that never happened. What is most telling was Gene Roddenberry's ability to look at his surroundings and create a fictional future that's not only plausable, but actually happens 40 years in the future. A sign of things to come? "HEY SIRI" or "HEY CORTANA".
Look at all the other things that Roddenberry used:
1. Pocket Communicator: Today's Cell Phone?
2. Universal Translator: Phone App that translates English and many other languages.
3. Coordinates for beaming from ship to shore: GPS
4. Tablet computers: Tablet computers
5. "Viewing Screen on...": Big screen Televisions
6. The "replicator": 3D printers
How many more can you think of?
Apple SIRI or Amazon Alexa on Star Trek in 1968? Here is the actual dialogue from an episode. You might appreciate the vision of Roddenbery.......
Another Bewitched dialogue from the 1960 series: A conversation between Sam and her Mom:
"Samantha: They play it with a ball and a big stick called a bat. One man throws it to the man holding the bat, who tries to hit it. Then everybody chases the ball, and the man who hits it runs around in a circle on a field called a diamond before anyone else can tag him. And the one who runs around the most wins the series."
Endora: [her mom]"A series of what?"
Samantha: Nothing. Just a series.
Endora: Typical. That's a human being for you. Spend most of their lives running around in circles for a series of nothing."
